Here is the C'est L'Halloween Song we have been singing in class! What a busy day in kindergarten! Painting pictures of gourds, patterning, making a house, are just some of the highlights today!
Our airplane inquiry has taken off (hee)! While we were outside the students made different types of airplane, and discovered which ones flew best. This morning the children were very excited that they saw FROST on the play structure, Brrrrrrrr. The teachers were less excited :) We will start to talk about the coming season, and when they think the first snow fall will be! Welcome back! We hope you had a great weekend! Patterning is in full swing this week! We are trying 2, 3, and 4 colour patterning.
We had an airplane inquiry start today! It started with a boy asking me to help him make a paper airplane. We then talked about other things that could fly! The boy then went to the block area and made a ramp for the plane to take off from. Some other children saw this, and began to make their own planes. We took all of the planes outside to see if they could fly. It was windy out, so the plane flew very well! It was library Friday today! Just a reminder that evey Friday is library day. Children will not be able to get a new book unless the they have returned their old one. Colder weather is here, please ensure your children are dressed in warm clothing. Mittens, hats, warm coats and boots. We are outside alot, and want to make sure they are comfortable. Also please send extra pants, socks, shirt, and underware. Homework!!!! If you could please have your child practice doing up their zippers. There are 33 little friends and 2 teachers, having the children practice their zippers would be very helpful! Helpful Hint: If you havent bought the snowsuit yet, have your child go with you to try zippers! Have a wonderful weekend!! What a great day! Pumpkin is still our on going project, they are everywhere! We even have them in the water table, the students were trying to see how many cups of water would fill a pumpkin! At the art center we were making pumpkin life cycle crowns. there was some amazing construction going on in the block area today! Their creativity amazes me! How many cubes tall is the pumpkin? that was our open question at the science center today. What a busy day! We spent a lot of time outside today, as the weather was amazing! Inside the children explored centers, and at group time practiced our Halloween song! C'est L'Halloween. French Vocabulary is centered around Halloween as well. I have added a list of words to the Vocabulary tab! Pumpkins, Pumpkins, Pumpkins! The students are having a blast exploring the pumpkins inside and out! Beading is also a favorite right now. In math our curriculum focus has been sorting over the past few weeks, and the students are sorting everything! today they sorted pumpkin seeds in one bowl, and pumpkin goo(their words) in the other. We are also seeing the natural progression from sorting into patterning. So we will be moving on to that very soon!
Our white pumpkin was Orange on the inside!! The students did a poll on which colour they thought the pumpkin would be on the inside. We had 6 friends that thought the pumpkin would be orange, and 20 friends who thought it would be white. We also went on our nature walk today, and had amazing weather! A big thank-you to all the parents who volunteered! Also a big thank-you to those who donated pumpkins! Halloween is everywhere! We had lots of skeletons being made today! Dialog of the day came from a girl talking at our pumpkin exploration center! E: "Mme Kirkwood, do you know how im investigating the pumpkins?" Mme K: "How are you investigating the pumpkins?" E:"im seeing which one is heavier!" Mme:K" Bravo! and which one is heavier?" E: "The White one!" Mme K" Ah la Citrouille Blanc!" E: "Oui Blanc" We continued to explore the pumpkins, how many lines they had, which one was the roundest, which one was the tallest ETC. Then a question came up, "Is the inside of the white pumpkin orange?" What a GREAT question!! So we will be taking that question to the whole class, and seeing who thinks the pumpkin is white, and who thinks it is orange on the inside. Then we will open it up and find our answer, Stay tuned! NEW CONSCIOUS DISCIPLINE VIDEO!! Siblings raised with Conscious Discipline! Halloween has arrived! The children came back from their long weekend with stories of Halloween costumes, and decorating houses. They decided the dramatic play area should be a haunted house! We sat down and listed what our haunted house would need, and how we should build it! Sorting and Patterning are seen throughout the class room centers! We have some pumpkins and gourds to explore in the science center, and some Halloween writing books in the writing center. Wish list: Pumpkins of all shapes and sizes! * If you have any house plants that are too big and need to be split, we would love some for the classroom! |
