How it started! :
for the past week a group of boys have been spending a lot of time working on drawings of ninja turtles. Everyday at some point during free play they have been engaged in this activity. So today we introduced the clay sculpture center! The children were invited to build a sculpture(including but not limited to teenage mutant ninja turtles ), and encouraged to make a drawing of what they wanted to make first. The idea behind it was to get the children to extend their play and get them involved in a different activity based on what they were interested in. We had children who are not usually drawn to this type of activity participating for an extended period of time. The outcome blew me away! your children are incredibly creative, and created some amazing sculptures. Below are some photos of their work! Hello!
I apologize for the gap in posts, but sadly I have been away. The children have been busy, busy though! This week our centers are focused around Chinese New Year! We are making a big dragon, learning to write Chinese numbers, and making Chinese lanterns Animal Park! Today two girls in the morning class created an animal park! A and K created a obstacle course for their pets. This was extremely rich play. The girls even went to the art center and made a swing for their pets! Below is a series of photos that capture this amazing play! The role of the teacher in this scenario was to extend the girls thinking, help solve some mechanical malfunctions, and insert some French vocabulary! E.L.E.C.T

Unfortunately due to the cold weather today we had to stay indoors, but the children enjoyed our game of 7 up as an indoor recess activity! We have started new centers! Science: Which ice cube will melt faster? the one with salt on it, the one rapped in tin foil, the one in Mme's hand, or the one in the bowl? Math: Money concepts. Penny, nickel, dime, quarter, and loonies This will extend our grocery store play! Art: Tissue paper mittens Language: French Vocabulary, and reading/writing skills WISHLIST!! - We would love some play dough for our class! - Art is still very popular! and recyclables or interesting odds and ends would be to put to good use!!! Thank-you for your continued support! Construction of our grocery store is in full swing! The students continued to make price tags, and started making money and name tags!
Thank-you to those who sent in empty boxes!! Please continue to send them in!! Note: If you did not receive a milk or breakfast for lunch form, and would like one please let us know. They were put in note totes, but some students did not have theirs with them. Reminder: Friday is a PD day Hello!
Today was a great day! even though it was wet outside, we were able to play outside and try to avoid the lakes! We opened up the nature center for the children to explore! Our nature center has been transformed into a winter wonderland with sticky snow to play with!! We had a few groups of children pretending to be animals in the forest. They built "animal homes" and created amazing stories. Inside the Mobilo is extremely popular! We also took a vote on what we want our drama to be. The result was a Grocery store! The students have been working on price lists, and items they want to sell in their store. We would be very grateful if you could send in any empty food boxes you may have at home to add to our store! Note: If you are sending any money in your childs note tote, can you please enclose it in a envelope or baggie. this will significantly reduce the amount of time note totes take in the morning. Happy Monday!
We hope you had a great weekend!! It sure did feel like spring! The children have been very interested with snow and observing how it is melting. We designed a science experiment around this. Centers this week will be: Art: 3D snowflakes Math: How many Marshmallows does my hot chocolate need? Carpet: Mobilo |
